Little Red

Wet snout, bared teeth, brown eyes stare,

Enter the woods and follow the path, only if you dare,

Tall trees, long walk, cake and bread,

Bringing them to the grandmother, who’s sick in bed,

Tongue flicks, ears prick, hind legs pounced,

“Going to my grandmother’s” the little girl announced,

Grey coat, bushy tail, the wolf opts to retreat,

Waiting for the next time the pair will meet,

Cold air, warm coat, cottage comes into view,

Little girl calls: “Granny, is that you?”

Door creaks, girl approaches, peers into the room,

Brown eyes glare back, wanting to consume,

Sharp teeth, long nose, large solid head,

“My, what big teeth you have”, the little girl said,

Low groan, eyes fixed, mouth opened wide,

“All the better to eat you with”, the creature replied,

Broad shoulders, thick beard, axe in hand,

Here comes the best lumberjack in all of the land,

“Knock, knock”, door breaks, weapon is raised,

Wolf howls, leaps up, seemingly unfazed,

Giant dog, lips curled, hungry for meat,

Strikes him down easily, ready to eat,

Wicker basket, checked cloth, treats in her hands,

Wolf looks up, bloodied face, to where the girl stands,

Cupboard bangs, frail voice, trying to shout,

Little girl starts plotting ways of getting grandma out,

Red cape, red lips, red, red, red,

But step a little closer and she’s dead, dead, dead.
